STEPS respectfully acknowledges the land located in the Tk’emlups te Secwepemc territory that is situated in the southern interior of British Columbia within the unceded lands of the Secwepemc Nation.
Supporting Team Excellence with Patients (STEP) Society was incorporated on April 11, 2017 as a British Columbia Society whose purpose is to lead innovation in the provision of interdisciplinary team-based primary health care with the goal of developing a successful model of primary care delivery that can be adopted by others. STEPS aims to achieve this by developing a community health centre with an environment that, while fostering the accessibility, quality, innovation and comprehensiveness of health care in the Thompson-Cariboo-Shuswap regions, will offer a range of primary health, social, rehabilitation and other services in partnership with health care agencies as deemed necessary to assist in achieving optimum health status for each individual or group who seek assistance. The patient, (individuals, couples and multigenerational families) will be a member of their own health care team. STEPS will encourage diversity in both professional and office staff so that health care provision practices will seek to understand, accept and incorporate cultural, social and lifestyle practices into health care planning with each person, family or group.
STEPS is a community health centre governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. STEPS vision is to provide cutting-edge health facilities modelling proven solutions for access to quality health care and patient care in the Thompson-Cariboo-Shuswap area. STEPS family physicians and nurse practitioner care longitudinally for approximately 20% of the Kamloops populations. Our team is looking forward to the future and continued successes to enable and support a sustainable, healthy primary care system to help our community reach best health outcomes for our people.
The current Board of Directors include the following:
President: Colin O'Leary
Vice-President: Heidi Coleman
Treasurer: Kevin Sewell
Secretary: Ron Gorospe
Director: Deb Donald
